Cold-Formed Steel Design for Massachusetts’ Newest Casino

Springfield, Massachusetts (2017)

The MGM Casino in Springfield, Mass., is one of the largest commercial construction projects in New England. The facility has roughly 850,000 square feet of residential, dining, retail and entertainment space planned. The project site is over 14 acres (roughly the size of nine football fields).

Iron Engineering’s role was as the structural engineer, responsible for the design of the exterior cold-formed steel framing, facade substrates, preparation of cold-formed steel shop drawings and site inspection services.

The facade finishes included Glass-Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC), brick, EIFs and metal panel. The wall systems employed the SMARTci GreenGirt – Simple Z™ system for it’s good hygrothermal performance.
