The light gauge engineer takes the architectural and structural design prepared by the architect and structural engineer of record and designs a cold-formed steel structure to meet those specifications while also designing a structure unique to the capabilities and preferences (e.g. welding vs. screwing) of the framing contractor. The light gauge engineer prepares construction documents (shop drawings) and supporting calculations for review by the architect and engineer of record. Further, the light gauge engineer will support the fabricators throughout the construction process to deal with site conditions that don’t match the original design drawings.
